Dog of the Day is Scooter for 1/26/2012

“He’s the best shih-tzu ever. knows tricks. drives tractors, plays cards, loves football and the buckeyes .. See his facebook page @ scooter Stierwalt on facebook if you don’t believe me. In his spare time, he plays with the nieghborhood gang of dogs, there’s a Pit, boxer, rot wiler, and a chihuluhua ! they get together on sunny days in my back yard and all have play time for 30mins lol. I wish i had more pics of the gang, sorta reminds me of the movies or homeward bound. In his spare time he enjoys watching dogs 101 and T.V. is his favorite . he lays, watches, and crys at the animals on the t.v. He also enjoys watching Youtube too as long as it’s dog related. You can find him most days lounging around my house while i’m at work doing one of those following things. I’ve set timers for him so the T.v. turns on upstairs in my bed for his fav shows and call the answering machine in my room to tell him get on the bed so you can watch ! any more ?’s check out his profile!”

Dog of The Day for 1/25/2012 — Pj 12 , Susie 2, Sassy 1, Teddi 4months.

“I have 4 dogs. Pj is a shihtzu and is 12years old. He is grumpy, lol. Susie is a brussels griffon, she is laid back and very affectionate. I use her as a therapy dog at my fathers resthome. Sassy is 1 year, she is sassy just like her name implies, she is a yorkie poo. she will fetch for days, she has a bit of fear of people so she isnt a good therapy dog. but she is great with little kids. the last but not least in Teddi, he is only 11 weeks old shihtzu, very sweet and will be a good therapy dog too I believe. He will be laid back and loveable. I also have a cat named coco bear. He loves everyone too. I’m happy to join the group and hear about all your lovely pets. Mine give me tons of joy. they are my children and I love them dearly. Nice to meet everyone!”

Dog of The Day for 1/24/2012 – Simba

“This is my puppy Simba. My parents got him for me when I was just 9 years old. He was the runt of the litter but my mom just knew when she saw him that he would make the perfect addition to our family small family of 3. He was with me through everything. High school graduation, college graduation, my wedding, my husband’s two deployments, and many many boxes of French fries. We had to put him down this past summer just after his 16th birthday. He let us know it was time, but it was still difficult. We all miss him every day, but I know he’s still with me. He’s my furry little angel.”

Dog of the Day for 1/22/2012 – Choppy

“Choppy came to me when he was 1 year old. He was with a family that loved him but were too busy to take proper care of him. My son knew that I was wanting a dog and he overheard a man he worked with say that he wished that he could find a good home for Choppy. He called me from his work one day and asked me if I wanted the dog and I said yes. it took about a week for me to get him. He brought him home to me after he got off work and I instantly fell in love with Choppy. He wasnt groomed very well and of course he was scared and didnt understand what was going on. He kept me up all night with an upset stomach and wanting to play..lol. He was only housebroken to puppypads so I went and bought a harness and leash and started walking him.He was scared of the grass. He has never been outside much at all. it was funny but pitiful too. He got used to the walking right off…lol. Was housebroken in no time at all. All he needed was more love and attention than the other family had time for. I would like to have more than one Shih-Tzu sometime soon. I think they are great. All animals are special. I know Shih-tzus are. I plan on giving Choppy the best home and best life that I possibly can. He loves my sisters dog but her dog doesnt love Choppy back as much or at least doesnt like to show it..So I see another Shih-Tzu or 2 in Choppy’s future for playmate:)He loves his toys and has some favorites, of course, that he likes to lay down with or lay his head on them. So adorable. And he loves people. Love these dogs:)”

Akiva Update — 1/20/2012

Akiva is resting quietly now. He had a busy day going to the vet. Many of my wonderful community members offered a ton of support today. The details of the visit are below. Links to the original posts, where you can read all the nice comments were left are included below.

This is my best buddy boy Akiva, he is 8. He started having some trouble limping on his front left paw in the last couple days. We found a small wood splinter in his pad that we thought was the source of the problem, we got it taken out and he seemed a little better and figured he just needed a bit for the spot we removed the splinter from to heal. He is still limping significantly today, so we have a vet appointment at 1:30. Please wish Akiva well at the vet. Thank You, Jamie Dolan — with Akiva.

Follow up note I posted after the vet visit:

Thank You all so much for the love and support. Akiva and I appreciate it so much. Thanks for your patience with my absence and lack of posts today also.
This is me and Akiva at the Vet. Akiva had a very complete exam and we took a number of X-Rays of he legs. The vet also had trouble being able to tell which leg it was that was really causing him trouble. We decided that it was his right leg.
We could not see anything that was broken on the X-rays. His left shoulder joint was a little loose feeling, but we don’t think that is part of this issue. We think it is likely more tendon / joint related in the joint down lower on his right leg. The vet does not believe it is related to a tick borne disease (which can commonly show, even in the winter, with many months after an exposure) but that is a common cause of sudden lameness. The vet also thought his pads looked good and that the spot where we removed the little splinter from looked good as well.
I started Akiva on a NSAID (like Advil) called Metacam that is made for dogs. He also is getting some Tramadol for pain. I’m going to keep him resting and we hope to see some improvement in the next several days.
We stopped by the small local pet store on our way back from the vet and picked up some goodies. Akiva really likes the Salmon treats he got.
Thank You again.
Love;

Read this touching short story,,, for our Dog of The Day — 1/20/2012

“This is Buster after a long walk on a chilly winter day.
He is beat.
Buster was literally a recue.
I found him running around loose on the street in the middle of one of the coldest winters we’ve ever had. There was at least a foot of snow on the ground.
I tried to find his owners but no one stepped up to claim him and after about a month he was mine.
I thank God everyday that I just happened to see him and rescue him because he would have no doubt frozen to death if he didn’t get hit by a car before then.
We love him to death.
He was truly a gift.”

Dog of the Day for 1-19-2012

“she is my best friend. We go everywhere together. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. To me that makes her more beautiful.. I love all her little ways, when i am down she is the only one that can put a smile to my face. I named her baby because she acts just like one. If she wants up on my lap she puts her front paws up in the air, enough to say pick me up mommy, just like a baby would, and she cries when she wants something. When i rub her she will roll over onto her tummy and snort, if i stop rubbing she pats my hand with her paw enough to say keep going… The list could go on and on about how much I adore her. She is one of a kind I don’t know what i would do without her she is my life…”
