“Meet Penny, our rescue dog & former ”
lady of the streets” with her sister! (they were strays!) Luv4K9s in Dayton had saved her, groomed, fed, & gotten medical care for her. They put her on Petfinders.com. The rest is history!
Penny is our 1st non-AKC registered, pure-bred dog.
She is an adorable, independent thinker. She’s smart, resourceful, and very funny at times. Her personality is not as we expected it to be. We have had shih tzu for some 28 years & were used to cuddling, kisses, & closeness. Penny prefers to be aloof, playing on her own, sleeping in her kennel (we never close the door), she resists hugs. I was sad but determined to hang in there with her. In marriage you promise it’s ”until death do us part”. So it is with adoption… isn’t that at least as strong a commitment as marriage? YES!
So… day by day with lots of training & positive reinforcement, we are making progress & becoming closer friends. Thank the Good Lord Above!
I pray that I can show her nothing but love & security. Those are the things my past shih tzu have brought into my life. My path has been full of challenges from disabilities since 1990. People have a hard time understanding chronic long-term illness. Dogs don’t care, they just love you anyway. So we are therapy for each other. The more I give, the more I receive. As they say, ”Who is saving whom?” I know many here have saved rescued dogs. Thank you! I ask myself how would I feel to be passed over, time & again & denied a forever home? Pretty darned bad, that’s how! I’d feel like giving up.”
